What is coaching?
Why do people employ a Coach? How can coaching really benefit me? How many sessions would I need? Where does coaching take place? |
What is coaching? Coaching is a process where you, as the client, share your dreams, ambitions, hopes, fears, in fact whatever you want, with a Coach so that you can work together in helping you make positive changes to the way you are living your life. A Coach listens carefully to what you say, asks questions and provides appropriate challenge to help you clarify what you want, and then guides and facilitates your progress on a regular basis towards the defined goals that they have helped you set. A Coach is there supporting you and encouraging you throughout your quest to make the changes and achieve your goals, helping to keep you focused and on track and to overcome any challenges and obstacles on the way. Coaching is a one-to-one confidential relationship between you and your Coach with regular sessions held either face-to-face or over the telephone. In between sessions you make progress with agreed action points and / or homework. Coaching via email is also available after 4 telephone or face-to-face sessions. Typical things I work with clients on include: Relationships – wanting to improve the relationship you are in, getting over a break-up or divorce, looking for that special someone - wanting to build confidence in yourself again? Back to work after maternity leave or childcare - Worrying how you'll wrestle with guilty feelings of leaving your child, get to grips with being back in a work environment, and learning a new set of 'juggling skills trying to balance work life with home life? Coaching can help you prepare for this new phase in your life. Career – thinking of setting up on your own? Fed up with your current job but not quite sure what else you could do? Want to go for promotion but need to build your confidence and prepare yourself for it? Going for an interview and need some help preparing? Work - Just been promoted but finding it tough and need help working through ideas, or do you just need to talk through some of the challenges you are facing, particularly as you may not want to tell your boss? Maybe you are the boss and need some external challenge to help you consider different perspectives? Having problems dealing with certain people at work and want to find ways of working with them better? Finding certain parts of the job difficult to do? Or maybe you are stressed? Or is managing time and getting organised a problem that you’d like to sort out? Health – Desperately wanting to lose weight or start exercising regularly but can’t seem to stick to anything? Eating unhealthily and know you want to change your diet but it just doesn't happen? Want to give up smoking? Drinking? Is your health suffering because you are stressed? Confidence – do you have low self-esteem? Are you unable to do things because you lack confidence? Sometimes people don’t always know exactly what they'd like to work on straight away, they just have a more general uneasy feeling that life has "drifted off course" and that they are unhappy. As a coach I will help you get clear about what would make you happier and more motivated in your life.
